1979 & 1981 S type 2 proof coinage

1981 S type 2 coins
THIS is the rare 1981 S type 2 Susan B. Anthony dollar!  These coins have spiraled upward at a fairly steady pace since the arrival of Sacagawea signaled the end of the 4 date, 21 year series. Dealers and savvy collectors began trying to put away quantities of them when the new dollar coin was approved but soon found out there were few to be had. Most coins were already in SBA collections and there was no chance to find new specimens of the now 19 year old key coin. The only recourse was to bid ever higher prices to get the few remaining free coins left...or pry loose the one's already in collectors SBA books. Immediately prices began their climb from the $50 range to around $200 today. The future for the now highly desirable rarity seems very bright. I doubt that $200 is going to impress many SBA collectors into letting go of what is unquestionably the key coin of what has turned out to be one of the more popular coin series of the last few years. If you haven't completed your SBA set yet, now is the time before this coin joins the rank (and $400-$700 price tag) of the SVDB and 16D Mercury and the 21D Walker. My coins are no question absolutely guaranteed to be type 2 coins as I've "specialized" in 1981 type 2s for nearly 25 years. Unfortunately, in my quest to locate type 2 coins for dealers who seek me out at shows to supply them I've found many incorrectly labeled coins on show tables and for sale thru the mail and especially online. This difficult coin, if purchased from a dealer who doesn't know the indicators of the type 2 mintmark, is one of the more misunderstood varieties of the U.S. coin collecting. Buy from a dealer who KNOWS what one looks like or take a chance of buying a type one that is labeled a type 2 by someone who doesn't know. I have handled over 650 type 2 SBAs and sold well over 3600 type 2 coins of all denominations since discovering in 1982 that my 30 sets purchased from the mint had over 75% type 2 coins in them! (That was a happy day!)
